the black barring occurs because the movie was made for the wide screen, to make it fit TV screen they would either have to ';push it in'; from the sides, which makes everyone look really tall %26amp; skinny like a funhouse mirror, or they would have to cut off the sides of the shot, which causes a lot to be lost. so they just keep it wide and that's why there's black bars top %26amp; bottomDoes the black barring on letterboxed movies serve as imitation masking?
